Overview
This calculator determines a preterm infant’s postmenstrual age (PMA), corrected age, chronological age, and day of life based on gestational age at birth and date of birth. It is designed for use in the NICU and post-discharge follow-up setting.
Key Terms
Postmenstrual Age (PMA)
PMA is the gestational age at birth plus the chronological age since birth, expressed in weeks and days.
Corrected Age
Corrected age (also called adjusted age) is the age a preterm infant would be if born at term. It is calculated as PMA minus 40 weeks. Corrected age is only applicable for infants born before 37 weeks.
Term Equivalent Age (TEA)
TEA is the date on which a preterm infant reaches 40 weeks PMA (the equivalent of a full-term due date).
Day of Life (DOL)
DOL is the number of days since birth, with the day of birth counted as DOL 1. This convention is used consistently throughout infantfeeds.com calculators.
